Check out our interview with Nashville’s Jeremy Parsons!

What project(s) are you currently working on?

My second full-length album called Things I Need To Say is out now. I have put out the two singles off of it called “Burn This House Down” and “Why Is The Bluebird Blue.”  Both have music videos done by my good friend Pj Schenkel of Three Hat Media.

What inspired you to pursue a career in music and when did you know?

I have always been a fan of music but it wasn’t until High School that I discovered I could participate in the creative side of things. My friends were doing things I didn’t necessarily agree with so I went looking for something to keep me entertained and I ended up picking up a guitar. I can remember getting really consumed by it all and everything just started making sense. It was intoxicating and it has been ever since.

If you weren’t pursuing a career in music, what would you be doing for a living?

I think about this almost every day of my life. When I decided to pick up and move to Nashville years ago I was going to school to be a coach and personal trainer. I had always liked sports and had hoped to maybe be a P.E. coach because I would just get to play all day. Who knows if that would’ve stuck though. I imagined I would’ve ended up eventually getting into Agriculture like my Dad.

What is your favorite downtime activity?

My favorite downtime activity lately has been going for walks. Nashville is an ever-changin’ city and it’s fun to walk around and take in the sights and do that when I can and watch and experience all the growth as it occurs. It’s also great thinking time and a good reason to get away from my phone.

Who is your biggest celebrity crush?

My biggest celebrity crush has always been Charlize Theron. She has always seemed like a classy beautiful soul. I also really, really dig Phoebe Bridgers. She’s so talented and her online presence is confident, weird and sexy.

Who is your favorite sports team(s)?

I’m one of those people that never really fit the mold of a big sports fans. I could probably wing my way through most any conversation though. That all being said the only team I’ve ever really been able to pay attention to is my born and raised hometown team the San Antonio Spurs.

What is the last movie that you watched?

The last movie I watched was the Pixar Animated film “Coco.” I’m a huge fan of cartoons and I always love the delivery of message and emotion that always comes across these well-constructed masterpieces.

What is the last album you listened to?

The last album I listened to in its entirety was Brent Cobb’s “Providence Canyon.” I think Brent is one of the greatest writers and I love his delivery too. It’s a really great record and has as much substance as it does grooviness.

If you could only listen to one album for the rest of your life, what would it be?

As a fan of so much music, this is a tough one. I would have to answer without a doubt John Prine’s self-titled record from 1971. It’s got everything from great lyrics and timeless messages to witty humor and awesome production. I think it’s the perfect record and perfect representation of who he is as an artist and writer.

What is the greatest country song of all time?

This is such a matter of opinion but I think one of the greatest Country songs of all time as far as the embodiment of the genre from then to now is “Good Ole Boys Like Me” by Don Williams. It’s absolute poetry and captures the perfect nostalgic look back.

What has been your favorite city/town that you’ve visited out on the road?

I was just in New York City and that was such a great experience. All in all, though the coolest place I’ve been to date was Stavanger, Norway. I love all the quaint little places I always get to stop as well but Norway was so outside of everything I’ve ever known and been comfortable with. It was awesome to get to go over there and make music while also taking in new culture and sights.

What is your favorite meal?

My favorite meal is a hamburger from one of my favorite places on the East Side of Nashville called Dino’s (pronounced Dee-no’s like the dinosaur on the Flintstones). Its a big Cheeseburger with the usual fixings but topped with a fried egg, avocado, and bacon. It’s an absolute comfort meal for me.

Who is your dream duet partner?

My dream duet partner is and always will be John Prine. I would love to write and record a hilarious number with him. He’s the best!

Who would you like to go on tour with?

There are so many artists that I love and respect out there and I feel like I could learn so much from all of them. It has always been my dream to go out on the road, or even play one show, with John Prine.

What is your ultimate career goal(s)?

My ultimate career goals are to continue to play, write, and make music until I die or just can’t anymore. It’s always been that simple for me. I do what I love and I love what I do. As far as bigger and bucket list goals I would love to play the Ryman at least once and would love to open up for someone at Red Rocks Amphitheater.
