  • Artist Name: Scott MacKay
  • Hometown: Charlottetown, PEI

What project(s) are you currently working on?

I’m currently in the process of working on a comical traditional country album that I’m hoping to release in the Spring of 2021.

What inspired you to pursue a career in music and when did you know?

I was a late bloomer. When I was in university, my buddy had mentioned that he was going to take guitar lessons and that inspired me to take them as well. I went through a period of learning and playing other people’s songs and then took a stab at writing my own. Once I got a taste of creating original material, I was hooked.

If you weren’t pursuing a career in music, what would you be doing for a living?

I don’t have to think too much about this one because aside from being a singer and songwriter, I’m also a junior high teacher.

What is your favorite downtime activity?

Reading and listening to podcasts.

Who is your biggest celebrity crush?

Natalie Portman.

Who is your favorite sports team(s)?

My dad always cheered for the Leafs, so I had no other choice but to cheer for them as well.

What is the last movie that you watched?

Marriage Story

What is the last album you listened to?

Ray Price – Night Life

If you could only listen to one album for the rest of your life, what would it be?

At this moment I’d say Goon by Tobias Jesso Jr., but by tomorrow morning my mind may change.

What is the greatest country song of all time?

That’s a really tough one. There are so many great country songs for different reasons but if I had to choose one I’d probably say, “He Stopped Loving Her Today.”

What has been your favorite city/town that you’ve visited out on the road?

I enjoyed Medicine Hat, Alberta. It’s such a quaint and quiet spot with a wonderful arts community.

What is your favorite meal?

Macaroni and Cheese (although my stomach hates it).

Who is your dream duet partner?

Kacey Musgraves

Who would you like to go on tour with?

Brandy Clark

What is your ultimate career goal(s)?

Within the music world, getting a publishing deal as a songwriter would be the ultimate prize. To be able to be creative and write songs from 9-5 would be pretty great.
