  • Artist Name: David Newbould
  • Hometown: Nashville, TN

What project(s) are you currently working on?

Getting people to hear my new album, Sin & Redemption.

What inspired you to pursue a career in music and when did you know?

I was inspired by my musical heroes, and what their music did for my life, coupled with the realization that I had a certain aptitude for it and obsession with it. The moment I *knew* was watching Neil Young’s “Live Rust” concert film in my basement. It was game over. I have him to blame.

If you weren’t pursuing a career in music, what would you be doing for a living?

Wishing I were playing music for a living, and figuring out ways I could. Helping my family achieve all their goals and dreams 24/7.

What is your favorite downtime activity?

Writing songs, and lately doing crossword puzzles to keep my brain active (as an antidote to the calamitous neurological influences of iPhones and social media).

Who is your biggest celebrity crush?

I’ll go with my first, Alyssa Milano.

Who is your favorite sports team(s)?

I have three: New York Knicks, Toronto Maple Leafs, New York Mets. No others matter.

What is the last movie that you watched?

“El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie”

What is the last album you listened to?

Either Bruce Springsteen Western Stars or The Minks Light & Sweet (both yesterday, forgot which order). The Minks are amazing, by the way.

If you could only listen to one album for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Bruce Springsteen The Ghost Of Tom Joad

What is the greatest country song of all time?

Marty Robbins‘s “El Paso,” followed by Gary Stewart’s “Empty Glass.”

What has been your favorite city/town that you’ve visited out on the road?

Manitou Springs, CO. It’s like being in an old mountain town painting.

What is your favorite meal?

Homemade pasta (wide noodles), garlic, rich olive oil, tomatoes and basil from the garden, grated parmesan. Excuse, me, I have to go for a minute.

Who is your dream duet partner?

I would love to play guitar side by side with Jeff Beck. I get so inspired by every single note he plays. I would love to play songs and harmonize with Tom Waits, his music encompasses beauty in all its forms.

Who would you like to go on tour with?

Keith Moon. He’d loosen me up a bit. A lot of factors here, but if I could watch Bruce & The E Street Band every night stageside, *and* open for them, I feel I’d forever be a better musician. Bruce doesn’t tour with opening acts though. More realistically – John Prine, Dawes, Jason Isbell – all great artists with enthusiastic and interested audiences. Really any touring is better than no touring though.

What is your ultimate career goal(s)?

Build my audience, make records they enjoy, tour the world playing for them. Wash, rinse, repeat.
