  • Hometown: San Francisco, CA

What project(s) are you currently working on?

Right now, I’m gearing up to release my first single “Walk the Line” from my upcoming album Different Places on September 22nd. It’s been a lot of work but I’m really excited to get it out into the world.

What inspired you to pursue a career in music and when did you know?

I was inspired by my Uncles when I was young. They were musicians in bands and I immediately took to the lifestyle. I became obsessed with music, making mix tapes of all my favorite bands, and then I started going to concerts and loved the energy. I bought my first guitar when I was thirteen and never looked back. It wasn’t even really a choice, it was just something I naturally pursued.

If you weren’t pursuing a career in music, what would you be doing for a living?

I’m not totally sure, but it would have to be something creative where I can still have a positive impact on people. Maybe teaching? Or a full time journalist?

What is your favorite downtime activity?

I love writing. I’ve written a screenplay and a novel and am currently working on a piece of non fiction. I also like playing video games, which I’ve had a lot of time to do lately.

Who is your biggest celebrity crush?

I don’t pay much attention to celebrities but it’s hard not to like what Taylor Swift has done with her musical voice.

Who is your favorite sports team(s)?

 San Francisco Giants

What is the last movie that you watched?

Some weird movie called The Invitation on Netflix about a cult.

What is the last album you listened to?

The newest Neil Young album, Homegrown. It’s fantastic.

If you could only listen to one album for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Probably Nirvana Unplugged. I think that’s the single greatest recorded performance of all time.

What is the greatest country song of all time?

The tough. I love the song “Jolene” by Dolly Parton.

What has been your favorite city/town that you’ve visited out on the road?

Living on the west coast, I love playing in Portland, OR. The food is amazing, the people are super invested in music and there are some great musicians running that scene.

What is your favorite meal?

Pizza, hands down.

Who is your dream duet partner?

I’ve been fortunate to duet with a couple really amazing women on my new album. Elliott Peck from Midnight North sang on a couple songs, including “Walk the Line.” I’d been wanting to work with her for a long time. Leah Van Dyke has been singing with me for almost ten years. If I had to choose someone else, it would be Alison Krauss.

Who would you like to go on tour with?

Ryan Adams. That dude is wild. Last time I saw him he had these giant makeshift Marshall stacks on stage. He’s a big influence of mine. Makes great music and doesn’t take himself too seriously.

What is your ultimate career goal(s)?

Honestly, I just want people to listen to my music but playing Hardly Strictly Bluegrass would be a huge milestone for me.
