CAMP ARANZAZU’S 12th Annual Zazu BBQ, Music & More!

Support children and adults with special needs and chronic illnesses

without getting up from the couch!

Rockport, Texas—Camp Aranzazu’s 12th annual “Zazu BBQ, Music & More” featuring Bruce Robison and Kelly Willis, will be live-streamed from Camp Aranzazu on Saturday, September 26, 2020. All proceeds support children and adults with special needs and chronic illnesses throughout Texas.

In addition to the concert, the hour and a half show will include testimonials from campers and an online auction. Top underwriters can enjoy a private concert at camp. Other donors can receive a complete “party package” with everything they need to enjoy their night with delicious barbeque and drinks.

Last year’s event was one of the biggest ever, drawing 325 people and raising over $130,000. Proceeds underwrote a week at camp for 145 children and adults with special needs and chronic illnesses.

“Zazu is a Camp Aranzazu tradition, where we invite the community to join us at camp and to support some of Texas’ most vulnerable citizens,” says Virginia Ballard, Camp Aranzazu president. “As much as we like to show off our beautiful camp, hosting 350 people for dinner and a concert isn’t a wise idea this year; even so, we promise to still make it a fun evening. And you won’t even have to get up from your couch!”

“Most of us are probably feeling a little isolated and disconnected at the moment. The children and adults with special needs and chronic illnesses whom we serve struggle with that feeling every day,” adds Ballard.  “So while we also can’t host them at camp right now, we are continuing to find new and creative ways to serve these children and adults. This event is a way for the community to help us do so.”

Event registration is available at www.camparanzazu.org/events. “Party packages” include barbeque, beverages, and treats guaranteed to make you feel like you’re back at camp, and underwriting levels range from $500 to $15,000. Individual concert tickets are $50 per person.

Camp Aranzazu is a 104-acre, barrier-free camp in Rockport, Texas. The camp’s mission is to enrich the lives of children and adults with chronic illnesses and special needs by providing unique camping, environmental education and retreat experiences. Approximately 50% of Camp Aranzazu’s campers come from the Coastal Bend; 35% come from the San Antonio area; and 15% come from the Houston area.

Since 2006, almost 27,000 children and adults have benefited from the camp’s unique form of recreational therapy.
