Artist Name: Melissa Payne
Hometown: Peterborough, ON, Canada

What project(s) are you currently working on?

I am currently working on writing a new album and also working and collaborating on music with other artists such as Matt Mays, Greg Keelor and Express and Company.

What inspired you to pursue a career in music and when did you know?

I was hooked from an early age. After carrying around a plastic guitar and a tree branch as a bow for a few years, at age five my mother bought my first fiddle. I don’t think there has been a day since I wasn’t playing music.

If you weren’t pursuing a career in music, what would you be doing for a living?

It’s hard to picture a life without music. I suppose I would be back in childcare. Childcare and music always went hand and hand for me! I still love playing music for and teaching children. They are truly the best audience.

What is your favorite downtime activity?

Spending time by the water with my partner Katie and our two rescue dogs Maggie & Nala.

Who is your biggest celebrity crush?

Dolly Parton.

Who is your favorite sports team(s)?

My niece and nephews hockey team – The Ennismore Eagles.

What is the last movie that you watched?

Frozen 2.

What is the last album you listened to?

Willie P Bennett – Hobo’s Taunt.

If you could only listen to one album for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Neil Young – Harvest Moon.

What is the greatest country song of all time?

“He Stopped Loving Her Today” – George Jones

What has been your favorite city/town that you’ve visited out on the road?

Every time we are on tour this country wows me.  It’s amazing how many beautiful towns are right on our doorsteps. Top city at the moment – Paris ON

What is your favorite meal?

Stacked-high BLT sandwich

Who is your dream duet partner?

Dolly Parton

Who would you like to go on tour with?

Willie Nelson

What is your ultimate career goal(s)?

To never stop learning and growing as a musician and performer.
