Kenny Rogers

Iconic country star Kenny Rogers has passed away at the age of 81 according to a tweet by his family.

“The Rogers family is sad to announce that Kenny Rogers passed away last night at 10:25PM at the age of 81. Rogers passed away peacefully at home from natural causes under the care of hospice and surrounded by his family.”

He had stepped away from the public spotlight in recent years due to health issues after completing his farewell tour.

Best known for his hit “The Gambler” that spawned a series of movies and acting roles for himself, Rogers was one of the biggest stars of the 70’s and 80’s. He had a resurgence in the late 90’s with the baseball themed “The Greatest” and became the oldest male artist to ever have a solo #1 hit with “Buy Me A Rose” in 2000.

In addition to being a Hall of Fame solo artist, Rogers was also known for his catalog of duets with various partners overs the years, headed up by Dolly Parton and their massive hit “Islands in the Stream.”

Outside of music and acting, Rogers was passionate about photography and ventured into entrepreneurship, most notably with his chain of chicken restaurants.

Rogers had 24 number one hits, six CMA Awards, and three Grammys that culminated with his induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2013.

We truly have lost one of the most recognizable voices in all of music. Our condolences go out to his family and loved ones.

Here is what his fellow stars are saying about his loss.

We had the privilege of photographing three of his shows over the years:

Artist Name: Billy Droze
Hometown: Born in Lafayette, LA and raised in Boaz, Alabama

What project(s) are you currently working on?

Well, I’ve got my new album Waiting Out The Storm and am all the while producing 3 more for our record label RBR Entertainment including Marija Droze’s Listen to your Heart, a compilation project called Kings of Grass, and lastly I’m starting the process for a debut bluegrass album for my buddy and label mate Tommy Buller.

What inspired you to pursue a career in music and when did you know?

I really believe I was just simply born with the inspiration to pursue music! As far back as I can remember, it has been my calling card and deepest passion.

If you weren’t pursuing a career in music, what would you be doing for a living?

Well, I really love to build and create, so probably something to do with architecture

What is your favorite downtime activity?

Outdoors, anything Outdoors – camping canoeing, fishing, etc.

After meeting her a few times I’d definitely have to say Mrs. Dolly.

The Highwaymen!!! Not a sports guy.

What is the last movie that you watched?

Avatar for the 100th time. I’m addicted to that movie

What is the last album you listened to?

The Cranberries

If you could only listen to one album for the rest of your life, what would it be?

I just don’t think I could, but it would either be – Celine Dion or George Jones – LOL big jump, I know!

What is the greatest country song of all time?

Verne Gosdin – “Chiseled in Stone”

What has been your favorite city/town that you’ve visited out on the road?

Visaginas Lithuania Europe

What is your favorite meal?

Fried Potatoes

Who is your dream duet partner?

I have a wide range in musical tastes, so I’d have to say it’s way more than just one…Celine Dion, Alison Krauss, of course Dolly, Bryan Adams, and the Gypsy Kings.

Who would you like to go on tour with?

Alison Krauss and Union Station – and definitely Chris Stapleton.

What is your ultimate career goal(s)?

To change people’s lives through the power of words and music! To leave a legacy for my family to be proud of! To be unique enough to stand out from the rest and to ultimately give God the glory for all of the above.
