Interview with Few Miles South

Posted by at 9:28 pm on March 25, 2020
Mar 252020

  • Artist Name:  Few Miles South
  • Hometowns:  Tori – (originally from) Los Angeles, CA; Blake – Blakely, GA

What project(s) are you currently working on?

We just released a new EP, Wiregrass. It’s a country-bluegrass project and Michael Cleveland (2020 Grammy Winner for Best Bluegrass Album) plays fiddle on 4 out of the 5 tracks. We have a lot of unreleased songs too and next up will probably be a country-southern rock album.

What inspired you both to pursue a career in music and when did you know?

We decided to give the country band thing a shot a couple years after we met. We both love traditional country music and initially wanted to write songs for other artists, but it seemed more fun to get out and play them ourselves. We started Few Miles South about 3 – 4 years ago.

If you weren’t pursuing a career in music, what would each of you be doing for a living?

-Blake: I would’ve pursued baseball.

-Tori: I would go back to teaching, music and yoga.

What is your favorite downtime activity?

-Tori: Gardening/trying to make things grow. I haven’t been too successful ’cause we’re gone so much but it’s relaxing.

– Blake: Building stuff around the house, I recently put up a new fence.

Who is your biggest celebrity crush?

-Blake: Jerry Reed, that was one funky Georgia boy.

-Tori: Emmylou Harris, I’d love to meet her, and Linda Ronstadt, and Dolly Parton, all of the Trio ladies.

Who are your favorite sports teams?

-Blake: Atlanta Braves

-Tori: I don’t really follow sports, but I like watching the Winter X Games.

What is the last movie that you both watched?

-Tori: Spencer Confidential. Haha! I tell Blake that he and Mark Wahlberg could be brothers so we always watch whatever he’s in.

What is the last album each of you listened to?

-Blake: Cookin, Jerry Reed.

– Tori: Home, Billy Strings.

If you each could only listen to one album for the rest of your life, what would it be?

-Tori: That’s too hard to pick just one, I’d have to give that a lot of thought. I’d probably cheat and make a compilation. A little country, like Jean Shepherd, a little rock, like Heart, a little soul, like James Brown, etc.

– Blake: Yeah, me too.

What is the greatest country song of all time?

-Tori: “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry” by Hank Williams. That song makes me tear up every time.

What has been your favorite city/town that you’ve visited out on the road?

-Tori: My new favorite is Silver City, New Mexico.

– Blake: Jasper, Alberta.

What is your favorite meal?

-Blake : Wings

-Tori: Mac n Cheese

Who is your dream duet partner?

-Tori: How about Vince Gill.

– Blake: Would love to get Michael Cleveland to play a show with us one day.

Who would you guys like to go on tour with?

-Blake: That’s another long list, I’d have to give it more thought but off the top of my head…Billy Strings, Sturgill Simpson, Michael Cleveland, Allison Krauss.

– Tori: Anyone who’d let us haha! Emmylou Harris, The Steel Drivers, Western Centuries, Tyler Childers, Alice Wallace.

What are your ultimate career goals?

-Tori: Pretty simple, pay our bills playing music. Basically just keep doing what we are doing maybe on a more profitable scale haha!

– Blake: Make music full-time. We love touring with our dogs and camping as we go, so if we can keep that up that’d be awesome!
