  • Artist Name:  Poppyiris
  • Hometown:  Nashville, Tennessee

What project(s) are you currently working on?

Album #2 Popsicle Stand

What inspired you to pursue a career in music and when did you know?

Deedee: I wrote my first song at 13 after seeing my cousin singing “Killing Me Softly” and I remember thinking if I could make someone feel the way she made me feel that day, I would be the happiest being on earth. When I was 21 I started singing commercials in New York.  You could hear my voice on commercials like Avis Rent a car, Heinz Ketchup, IBM and Toshiba. I did that for rent money but my heart was always into songwriting.

Mike:

I came to Nashville the week after HS graduation.  My cousin is a professional bass player here and had already gotten established in the Nashville music community.  I got here on a Monday and on Tuesday he got a call about a new artist needing a bass player who also could sing harmonies.. he told them about me and on Thursday (less than a week of being in Nashville) I was on my way to Las Vegas with my first artist gig.–

If you weren’t pursuing a career in music, what would you be doing for a living?

Deedee:  Writing Broadway-bound musicals, teaching songwriting and acting which I still do all of.

Mike:I probably would have become a professional baseball player.

Deedee: The soundtrack to The Greatest Showman

Mike: Dolly Parton’s Greatest Hits

What is the greatest country song of all time?

Deedee: It’s a tie for me: “I Hope You Dance” and “God Bless the Broken Road”
