  • Artist Name: Rob Williams
  • Hometown: Richmond, VA

What project(s) are you currently working on?

My fourth studio album, Weathering the Storm, Vol. 1, is out on August 28th. The album was recorded over a year-long period of mini-sessions. I would write a few songs and my band and I would record them, then I would write a few more and we’d record those. That process continued until we had 12 songs. However, I’m releasing this on vinyl as well as disc, and vinyl has space limits. Only nine songs would fit on vinyl, and since touring is off the table for the time being, I’m currently focused on writing for the next record and performing livestream shows from time to time.

What inspired you to pursue a career in music and when did you know?

I had played in bands for several years before deciding to go solo. One of the moments that helped me get started on that path was seeing Rhett Miller (Old 97’s) play a solo show at the Black Cat in Washington, DC back in 2008. I never knew that a solo acoustic show could also be a rock show. I didn’t know too many of his songs at the time, but it was a great show. Rhett’s songwriting and performance inspired me to pick up the guitar again and take on a solo career. Thanks for that, Rhett.

If you weren’t pursuing a career in music, what would you be doing for a living?

I was a high school history teacher for several years, so I imagine that I’d be doing that.

What is your favorite downtime activity?

My wife and I bought a house last year that’s a bit of a fixer-upper. We spend a lot of time working on various projects in and around the place. That may not sound very relaxing, but it sure is rewarding. Plus, we like learning new skills and working on things together.

Who is your biggest celebrity crush?

Julie Bowen

Who is your favorite sports team(s)?

Ever since I was kid growing up in Virginia, I’ve been a UVA basketball fan.

What is the last movie that you watched?

“The Mountain Between Us”

What is the last album you listened to?

American Aquarium – Lamentations

If you could only listen to one album for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Craig Finn – We All Want the Same Things

What is the greatest country song of all time?

“Gentle on My Mind”

What has been your favorite city/town that you’ve visited out on the road?

Kansas City, MO

What is your favorite meal?

Hmmm… I don’t really have one favorite.

Who is your dream duet partner?

Brandi Carlile

Who would you like to go on tour with?

Brandi Carlile

What is your ultimate career goal(s)?

I love touring and seeing the country. My goal is to continue writing and recording songs, and be able to travel and perform them with my band.
