You may recognize Angela Watson from the TV show “Step by Step.”  Check out our interview with her about her music career!

  • Artist Name: Angela Watson
  • Hometown:  Danville, Illinois

What project(s) are you currently working on?

I’ve been recording some new original songs by J. Michael Witherington.  The first single is called “We Love Santa Claus.”  You can find it at AngelaWatsonSings.com.  The next one is still in the studio.  I’m also auditioning for TV and film acting roles in the Southeast.

What inspired you to pursue a career in music and when did you know?

Growing up in Illinois, my grandma and her 5 brothers and sister were self taught and played in their own country music band.  I grew up listening to my grandma sing, “Cowboy Sweetheart” and “Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain.”  As a child in the back of my parents’ motor home, I would listen to Dolly Parton’s 9 to 5 eight track and Loretta Lynn “Cole-miner’s Daughter.”

When I started entering beauty pageants from ages 11-13, I was a tap dancer.  I could never win in the talent portion and was always beaten by a singer.  I was determined to win talent and that’s when my singing career began.  I sang Patsy Cline’s “Walkin’ After Midnight” and indeed, won the talent category.

If you weren’t pursuing a career in music, what would you be doing for a living?

Being an actor or training guide dogs for the blind, and other’s who need their help.

What is your favorite downtime activity?

My husband and I love exercising; we bike, play tennis, swim, jog, do zumba, cardio-kickboxing and yoga.  We love watching The Shark Tank, and Married At First Sight.  I love attending church (currently online), Bible Study and singing worship music to our Great Lord.

Who is your biggest celebrity crush?

Right now it is Zach Williams, with a closed second and third of actors Tom Hardy and Charlie Hunnam.

Who is your favorite sports team(s)?

I’m not really a fan of sports.  It always has been the St. Louis Cardinals because they are the only professional baseball game I’ve attended.

What is the last movie that you watched?

Across the Universe.

What is the last album you listened to?

Cat Stevens, Mona Bone Jackon

If you could only listen to one album for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Creedence Clearwater Revival.  I only have a compilation, but it would have to contain, “Have You Ever Seen the Rain,” and hopefully “Long as I see the Light.”

What is the greatest country song of all time?

Friends in Low Places

What has been your favorite city/town that you’ve visited out on the road?

Calgary, Canada

What is your favorite meal?

Oven Roasted Lamb with Rosemary, Thyme, Garlic and Green Beans.

Who is your dream duet partner?

Zach Williams/Dolly Parton

Who would you like to go on tour with?

We the Kingdom/Cain

What is your ultimate career goal(s)?

To record a Worship Album and sing for the Lord.

Newcomers The Restless Band has a music video out for their new song, “One Step Ahead.”  It sounds like it would fit right in with today’s not-so-country music played on country radio these days.  It’s not a bad song, kind of sounds like what Emerson Drive would sound like if they had a current single on American country radio.  The lead vocals were the highlight of our scoring, as our grading system gave it a total score of 6.0.  Take a listen and let us know what you think of it on our social media channels!

Album Review: “The Otherside” by Cam

Cam’s new album The Otherside drops on October 30th, and we were able to give it a listen to let ya’ll know about it.  While the 11-track album wouldn’t exactly qualify as “country” in our eyes, it is full of quality music that was enjoyable to listen to.  Cam enlisted the help of pop stars such as Sam Smith, Harry Styles, and Tim Bergling (Avicii) to co-write tracks on this album.

We have a custom song-rating system that we use when listening to music to give each song a score (1-10), and on this album, the average score came out to 6.6 per song.  The top-rated songs were “What Goodbye Means,” “Happier For You,” “Like a Movie,” and “Diane.”

Cam has released four songs off this album for public consumption so far, available now on iTunes, including “Diane” (released in 2017 and peaked at #43) and her new single “Classic.”

The Otherside is Cam’s first album since her debut album was released 5 years ago featuring the smash hit “Burning House.”
