Kenny Chesney Announces “I Go Back” Tour

After a big touring year in 2022, Kenny Chesney wanted to find a completely different way to honor No Shoes Nation for his 2023 concerts.

“When a year is as hot and alive as 2022 was,” Chesney explains, “you don’t want to try to recapture that magic. Or maybe it’s me. I still have the sounds of diesel engines and No Shoes Nation in my head – and that made me ask, ‘What else could I do? What would be something that would put me every bit as much in the music and give No Shoes Nation another reason to believe? How can we reach those people who might not come to stadium shows, who live a little off the obvious path, but who love this music every bit as much…

“And that’s when it hit me: ‘I Go Back.’ That song is about holding all those things that shaped you very close, recognizing how special they are – and keeping them alive any way you can. So, I decided that rather than just go repeat what we did, I wanted to take this band and these songs to a lot of the cities we played on our way up! Let’s call the tour I Go Back – and do just that.”

“I remember coming up, the craziness of so many of those dates,” Chesney says of his tour’s inspiration. “Markets where people were using chain-cutters to get onto the lawn because we were so sold out in the Carolinas… and that’s a kind of energy that should never be left behind. For all those fans – based on how good last year felt – I want to bring what was coming off that stage to you, where you are, so we can all have that kind of experience together!”

With a few more shows to announce, I Go Back 2023 is set to focus on the same musical intensity and high energy performances that marked the East Tennessean’s precedent-setting concerts. Having been raised in Knoxville, Chesney knows the power of bringing music to the fans – and wants to recognize the bond that live shows create among friends of all ages.

“These songs time stamp people’s lives,” Chesney says. “They put people in their lives, but they also serve as the touchstone for memories in the making. For people to come out and either live these songs again, or hear them for the first time? Who knows what will happen? But I know whether it’s ‘American Kids,’ ‘Get Along’ or ‘You And Tequila,’ every single person knows exactly what we’re singing about and singing along to together.”

Chesney also announced that his “Half of My Hometown” duet partner Kelsea Ballerini would be opening for him.

“Kelsea understands everything about where I come from, because she’s from there, too,” Chesney says. “She knows how hard it is to leave, how much you miss all those things that make you who you are… but also how the only way to chase the kind of dream she has is to do just that. It’s a tough call when you love home the way we both do, but for kids like us, there was never really a choice.

“When she texted me to sing on the song she’d written with some of our friends, I said, ‘Let me hear it,’ knowing she knew everything about who I was,” Chesney continued. “As soon as I heard that first verse, I was in. And I have been one of Kelsea’s biggest fans ever since. She’s a writer, a girl who sings from her heart and isn’t afraid to honor where she comes from. To me, there was no other choice for this tour.”

“Music has taken me so many incredible places,” Ballerini says. “Around the world, singing with some of my heroes in pop, alternative and contemporary music, but singing with Kenny is going home. He was the only voice I heard on ‘half of my hometown,’ and when he comes in, it’s just like hitting the Knoxville city limits. So to be able to go out to those cities like the place he and I grew up with an artist who’s accomplished what he has, it’s a lot like going home.”

I Go Back 2023 is Presented by Blue Chair Bay Rum. American Express® Card Members can purchase tickets in select markets before the general public beginning Wednesday, November 23 at 10 a.m. local time through Thursday, December 1 at 10 p.m. local time.

Interview with Bailey Taylor

Artist Name: Bailey Taylor
Hometown: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

What project(s) are you currently working on?

I am currently getting ready to release my debut Christmas album called Christmas Love on November 25th. It’s been in the works for a couple years now and we finally sat down this year and made it happen. We wrote seven original songs and covered three classics. As for non-Christmas projects, I’m working on my debut Country-Pop EP, which is aimed to be released in the Spring of 2023.

What inspired you to pursue a career in music and when did you know?

I’ve grown up in a musical family. My uncle, B.E. Taylor, mainly known for his 20 year Christmas tour, has inspired me since I was a little girl. I had the honor of watching him perform time and time again and even was a part of his tour as I got older. Watching him interact on stage with his fans and the way he wrote his original songs, I knew I wanted to be just like him when I grew up. He passed away in 2016 and the last thing I said to him was “I’m going to follow in your footsteps and make you proud,” and ever since that day, I’ve been aiming to do just that.

If you weren’t pursuing a career in music, what would you be doing for a living?

I would probably be doing something with kids. Whether that be a pediatrician or an elementary school teacher, I would just want to be dealing with kids and interacting with them.

What is your favorite downtime activity?

I love going to work out at a gym, being outside on a walk or hike, or simply just relaxing watching tv or listening to a podcast.

Who is your biggest celebrity crush?

I crush big time on the Salvatore brothers in the TV show The Vampire Diaries so I’d say Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley or Riley Green.

Who is your favorite sports team(s)?

The Pittsburgh Steelers! I love football season so much. Sundays are my favorite when football is on.

What is the last movie that you watched?

Probably something Hallmark. I’m a BIG Hallmark Christmas girl, ask anyone who knows me.

What is the last album you listened to?

Kelsea Ballerini’s album, Subject To Change. She is one of my favorite artists, and I can relate so much to anything she releases.

If you could only listen to one album for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Probably RED by Taylor Swift. That album has so many jams and heartbreaks all in one, I love it.

What is the greatest country song of all time?

This is so hard!!! There are so many good ones, but two that I think are timeless are “Friends In Low Places” by Garth Brooks and “Live Like You Were Dying” by Tim McGraw.

What has been your favorite city/town that you’ve visited out on the road?

I haven’t toured too much yet, so I don’t have many places that I’ve traveled to for shows. I’m hoping to do a tour in 2023/2024!

What is your favorite meal?

My mom’s Spaghetti, with salad and garlic bread!! Mmm mm mm.

Who is your dream duet partner?

This is a tough one, I have so many dream collabs. For girls, I would say Kelsea Ballerini or Carrie Underwood. For guys I would say Dan & Shay or Gary Levox. They are all artists I have loved for a long time and they’ve been really big inspirations to my career in different ways.

Who would you like to go on tour with?

Carrie Underwood – I have always admired how classy she carries herself as a person and how she shares her talent and creativeness through her artistry. She has always been known to support upcoming artists and that’s something, as an independent upcoming artist, I truly love about her.

What is your ultimate career goal(s)?

Throughout my career, I’ve made a list of big and small goals I want to accomplish.

A few of the small ones include writing a song by myself once a week, making a few TikToks everyday and posting consistently, and practicing guitar for 30 minutes everyday. A few of the big goals I want to achieve is to have my first big writers cut with a bigger artist, sign a publishing deal, be an opener for a major headlining tour, and sign a record label deal. I know these are all achievable, but only time will tell!
