- Artist Name: Carolina East
- Hometown: I am from a small town called South River in beautiful Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Currently I am living in one of the oldest cities in North America, St. John’s NL.
What project(s) are you currently working on?
We have so many exciting things planned for the summer! We are starting season 2 of Whisky Wednesday, a biweekly live streamed show where I invite guests to share a drink and a song with me. We are also gearing up for the release of my album Soaked In Whisky coming out July 21.
What inspired you to pursue a career in music and when did you know?
I didn’t start singing until the age of 16. I landed the lead role in a high school play and needed to sing several songs as the character I was playing, it was then I realized how much I loved singing for audiences. A few short months later I began singing in a traditional NL band in pubs and bars on George Street. The rest is history.
If you weren’t pursuing a career in music, what would you be doing for a living?
I would be working with at-risk youth as a social worker. I care about kids and love working with them to help make a difference in their lives.
What is your favorite downtime activity?
I have really started to enjoy gardening! This spring I have planted some sunflower seeds along with a bunch of strawberry plants. So far I have six sunflowers that are starting to sprout, and my strawberry plants are showing some green leaves!
Who is your biggest celebrity crush?
Hmmmm… well it’s a toss up between Ryan Reynolds and Dax Shepard… but if I had to choose… I couldn’t… I could not choose!!! Don’t make me choose!!!
Who is your favorite sports team(s)?
Another great question. Well, if I was to pick my fav hockey team… I would have to say the Montreal Canadiens (this season anyway, I have a special place in my heart for Carey Price). I am also a big golf fan (as in I watch it when my significant other gives me no other choice); Phil Mickelson is the guy I am usually rooting for!
What is the last movie that you watched?
The last movie I watched was called We Were Children. This movie told the story of two residential school survivors from Canada. It was a very informative movie and I encourage everyone to watch it!
What is the last album you listened to?
I am loving Gabby Barrett’s album Goldmine. Both the studio versions and the live versions.
If you could only listen to one album for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Honestly…. it would have to be my own album. Just so I can remind myself that what I thought would never be possible… is possible. I am so proud of the things I have accomplished and excited to see what the future holds.
What is the greatest country song of all time?
Vince Gill has a large piece of my heart, in my opinion the greatest country song ever… “Go Rest High on That Mountain” – I sing this at almost all of my live shows. That song is very special to my family and me.
What has been your favorite city/town that you’ve visited out on the road?
I have been lucky to spend time in so many cities and small towns over the years, but Toronto has to be my favourite. Toronto is where I have learned so many lessons, it is where I found my voice and where I was able to prove I could stand on my own two feet as a singer and an artist. I met so many important people in Toronto. Most of which I can’t imagine living without now. I have shared so many great memories and hard learned lessons in that big city!
What is your favorite meal?
Ohhhhh, I am a sucker for a 7oz sirloin steak dinner at The Keg! With a twice baked potato and a side of onions and mushrooms!!! Now, I am also a huge nacho fan…. fully loaded nachos have a very special place in my heart!
Who is your dream duet partner?
JANN ARDEN… I mean, I basically sang through her entire concert a couple years ago in Toronto. I sang / sobbed through that entire concert… but yes… one day I will sing with Jann Arden and it will be wonderful. She has been an inspiration to me since I was a child.
Who would you like to go on tour with?
Not to be repetitive but… I would love to go on tour with Jann Arden. Oh, the laughs we would have! Oh, the songs we would sing! Oh, the stories to tell.
What is your ultimate career goal(s)?
My career goal is to continue to make music and perform while making a living. That’s the ultimate goal. Continue to make a living doing what I love. I can’t wait to travel again and sing for crowds big and small. I’m not looking for fame or fortune, I just want to play music, make others happy, and live a good life.
