Country Music Hall of Famer and National Radio Hall of Famer Ralph Emery passed away on Saturday, January 15th at the age of 88.

Per the notice we received from Country Aircheck, Emery was born March 10, 1933 in McEwen, TN and started his career in small-market stations within the state before going on to become one of only six current country-related members of the NRHoF. According to his biographical information at the Country Music Hall of Fame, “In one industry poll, Emery was voted Country radio’s greatest personality of the century, [and] he has been called ‘the Dick Clark of country music’ and ‘the Johnny Carson of cable television.’”

Emery launched his career in 1951 with a 15-minute newscast at WTPR/Paris, TN before moving on to WNAH/Nashville and WAGG/Franklin. He joined WSM-AM/Nashville in 1957 as host of Opry Star Spotlight. During his 25-year tenure with WSM, Emery found his niche combining an open-door policy with relaxed and informal studio atmosphere. In 1961, Emery became an announcer for the Grand Ole Opry, and in 1972, he began producing and hosting The Ralph Emery Show – a syndicated program of music and conversation – which ran in various forms until 1995.

Emery became a fixture on television, including a decade-long stint as host of the TNN series Nashville Now, which brought musicians together to talk and play. From 2007-2015, Emery returned to host RFD-TV’s Ralph Emery Live.

Emery was inducted into the Country Radio Hall of Fame in 1989, Country Music Hall of Fame in 2007 and the National Radio Hall of Fame in 2010.

• Billy Dean – Ralph Emery was a walking encyclopedia of country music. He always seemed to be interested in the artist more than the celebrity and asked insightful questions. Our time together usually resulted in me asking him more questions than he would ask me. He will surely be missed.
• Collin Raye – The country music world has suffered a great loss today with the news of Ralph Emery’s passing. No one ever in our history promoted our music and country music artists as faithfully and generously for as long as Ralph. He made a huge difference in my career throughout the ’90s, as well as every single artist who came on the scene. He truly crossed over country music into television and we all benefited greatly. People trusted Ralph’s opinion. Viewers were drawn to him and comfortable with him. He will remain an icon in our business. And even more importantly, he was a very nice, kind man. There will never be another. I’m quite confident he is with the greats from the past as we speak. He’s laughing and telling road stories. We will miss you, my friend.
• Darryl Worley – I think Mr. Emery was a national treasure and I was so blown away when I met him. He made country music history.
• David Frizzell – I first met Ralph Emery in Nashville with my brother Lefty at WSM Radio and then got to know him better in the early 80s with my singing partner Shelly West on The Nashville Now TV show.
• Deborah Allen – Ralph Emery was already a radio and television icon when I first moved to Nashville. His wealth of knowledge, wisdom and great love for country music was immeasurable! I loved Ralph. He was the real deal! A perfect gentleman and the ultimate pro. It was so much fun and such a pleasure just to be in his presence and always an honor to appear on his radio and TV shows. It was an even greater honor to call him my friend.
• Devon O’Day – Ralph Emery was my mentor. He was a teacher and guiding force, often giving me pep talks in an industry that will kick you in the teeth from time to time. He had a sixth sense about moments I needed wind in my sails. Not only that, but he was a star maker. Ralph would champion people, using every ounce of influence he had to shine the light on others. He is one of the last of the true DJ’s. No one has ever made more star discoveries than Ralph Emery.
• Don McLean – Ralph Emery was my friend. I did his show many times and he was kind enough to send me a Christmas card every year. He had that special country music knowledge and that voice. Ralph was to country music what Mel Allen was to the Yankees.
• Doug Gray (Marshall Tucker Band) – We always loved appearing on Ralph’s TV show. One of my favorite memories of him was interviewing Toy Caldwell. He always wanted him to sing ‘This Ole Cowboy.’  The lyrics say, ‘This won’t be the first time this ole cowboy spent the night alone.’ Now, Ralph will never be alone. Today and for eternity. May God bless you!
• Exile – We are sad to hear that our old friend Ralph Emery has died. Ralph is a legend in country music, and was a great friend and supporter of Exile. Our many appearances with him on Nashville Now were always enjoyable, and played a big role in our success. Rest in peace.
• Henry Paul (BlackHawk) – Ralph loved country music and helped orchestrate its incredible growth in popularity as an on-air country radio personality on WSM, the host of the popular ’70s TV show, ‘Pop! Goes the Country,’ and then on to the incredible popularity of his TNN musical variety show, ‘Nashville Now,’ in the late ’80s and early ’90s. His wealth of knowledge of country music history was widely respected and it was always a highlight to run into Ralph at the Bellevue Kroger. An architect of modern country music has passed and will be greatly missed.
• J.D. Shelburne – Prayers to the family of the Legendary Ralph Emery. One of the most iconic voices on the national airwaves. Sad to hear the news this morning from Nashville. Remember watching Ralph with my grandmother growing up. What a great life and career. He will be missed.
• Janie Fricke – It was great leaders like Ralph Emery who helped build careers for so many of us performers. May God Rest his soul.
• Jeannie Seely – Ralph Emery has been synonymous with Country music as long as I can remember. His endorsement of your records was almost crucial to a hit, and his criticism, although painful at times, often taught a lesson that would ultimately prove very useful. I could never imagine the Country music world without him, and I did not want to. Thank you, Ralph and RIP.
• Jeff Carson – I remember when I first got signed to Curb Records, I did the Ralph Emery Show. He was filming it at the Opryland Hotel where I had played prior to getting the deal. I’ll never forget it. I sat between Ralph Emery and Ray Price. You could’ve knocked me over with a feather. I have missed hearing his voice on a regular basis for years. He will be sorely missed.
• Joe Bonsall (The Oak Ridge Boys) – We are saddened this week at the losses of Dallas Frazier, Jerry Crutchfield, and now, Ralph Emery. Ralph was not only a legendary personality but a dear friend who meant so much to The Oak Ridge Boys’ career. If Ralph liked you … EVERYONE liked you! it would seem a lot of folks are going home these days so CELEBRATE LIFE FRIENDS. Life is God’s greatest gift this side of salvation. Goodbye Ralph, Jerry, and Dallas. See you at the House.
• John Anderson – Ralph was one of the best friends country music ever had. He loved the music but also brought to life the stories surrounding the singers and the songs through his interviews and TV programs. He really helped take our format into people’s living rooms and broaden the fan base with integrity for the art and humor.
• John Berry – Ralph Emery was a welcoming host to new artist like me, always engaging in great conversations revealing much about an artist, their music, and especially their day-to-day lives. I always enjoyed joining him on Music City Tonight as he would bring attention to new artist as well as the veteran entertainers. Ralph will be missed personally as well as professionally, he was one of a kind.
• Johnny Lee – Ralph Emery was truly a one of a kind and legend in country music. Many artists owe their start to him, myself included. I will never forget his kindness and prayers to his family.
• Kelly Lang – I am heartbroken to hear about the passing of my dear friend and father figure Ralph Emery. I will miss him so very much, but I know in my heart he is in a better place. Thank you Ralph for believing in me and playing such an important role in my life. Rest in peace.
• Kyle Young, CEO of the Country Music Hall of Fame – Ralph Emery’s impact in expanding country music’s audience is incalculable.  On radio and on television, he allowed fans to get to know the people behind the songs. Ralph was more a grand conversationalist than a calculated interviewer, and it was his conversations that revealed the humor and humanity of Tom T. Hall, Barbara Mandrell, Tex Ritter, Marty Robbins and many more. Above all, he believed in music and in the people who make it.
• Larry Gatlin – My old friend, and he was a friend, Ralph Emery, was a real piece of work, as we’d say in Texas. Not long after I left Texas and hit Nashville, Ralph took Dottie West’s advice / hint / order to put this upstart Gatlin boy on his TV show. Well, old Ralph did just that and that Gatlin boy’s life was forever changed. A couple of days ago, Ralph found out just how much he meant to me and a jillion other upstarts like me. Thanks Ralph. See ya when I do. And my condolences to you, Joy. You were and still are the ‘JOY’ of Ralph’s life. Keep the faith.
• Leroy Van Dyke – Ralph Emery was, for decades, an encyclopedia of country music and an authentic voice for country music. He will be missed.
• Lorrie Morgan – Ralph was like a father to me. When my dad died, he took me under his wing. He was hard on me when he needed to be and very praising of me when he thought I deserved it. He was a great friend and a lover of real artistry of any genre of music. If Ralph approved you, you were in and respected. I will miss my good friend and all the laughs. I love you, Ralph.
• Lulu Roman – Talk about someone who makes a profound effect on your life, not only by his words but by his actions as well. He was sneaky. He would sneak up and be there for you when you least expected it. He was a friend and will forever be missed.”
• Marty Raybon (Shenandoah) – Ralph Emery, in my opinion, should never be overlooked as playing a major part of the mid-’80s and ’90s country music. He broke and placed many artists and put them on the road to stardom. We were fortunately one of those acts. If Ralph Emery was for you, the country music fans were as well. For that we are ever grateful. The nights at TNN’s ‘Nashville Now’ were always an honor. Rest in peace.
• Mike McGuire (Shenandoah) – Sad to hear the news of the passing of country music legend Ralph Emery today. Ralph was kind enough to let Shenandoah play on not only his ‘Nashville Now’ show on TNN but also his early morning show on WSM TV. He was always kind to us and was a big supporter of our career. He was that way with a lot of new country music acts. We are sad to see him go. RIP Ralph. We will miss you.
• Moe Bandy – I am so devastated. He was such a important figure in our music. I am so blessed that I got to be one of his many friends. Rest in peace, my friend.
• Pam Tillis – The ‘Dean of Country Music Broadcasters,’ the ‘Johnny Carson of Cable.’ These aren’t accolades folks bestow on someone lightly. He helped introduce a whole galaxy of country artists to the world, myself included, and I will be forever grateful. His contribution to Nashville and beyond is nothing less than country music history. So very saddened to hear the news, but what a life, Ralph Emery. We can all just consider that for a respectful moment.
• Ray Stevens – One of the great men in the Nashville music business has passed away. Rest in peace, Ralph Emery. My good friend!
• Rhonda Vincent – My earliest memories of Ralph Emery are listening to him on WSM Radio.  My dad would talk about when he was married to Grand Ole Opry Star Skeeter Davis, and how she would pop in the studio and talk on the air during his late-night shift. Hearing my father talk about this, and listening to Ralph years later on the radio, became a vivid picture in my mind. For many years, Ralph Emery was the heartbeat of country music. He hosted Nashville Now on The Nashville Network. That’s where I came to know him best. He featured the best of the best on his show. Also hosted a morning show in Nashville. His passing is a great loss to the country music community, and he will long be remembered as the host of Nashville for many many years.
• Ricky Skaggs – I was very saddened to hear of Ralph Emery’s passing. He did more to promote country music than anyone I know. First of all, his late night radio show on WSM was heard from coast-to-coast and border-to-border, but his ‘Nashville Now’ television show on TNN was the biggest boost country music ever had. People were buying satellite dishes all across North America just so they could watch Ralph’s TV show. All of us wanted to be on his show, and if you were lucky enough to be asked to host the show, which I did quite a few times, that was a big deal. He was my friend, he loved my family, and we all loved him. Gone but never forgotten. Thanks Ralph.
• Ronnie Milsap – Ralph Emery understood artists as human beings, and if Ralph liked you, chances are you were gonna make it in Nashville. I loved him on WSM, and every TV show he ever had on the air.
• Sam Moore – I am heartbroken to learn that the man who believed in me when I wasn’t even sure I believed in myself after my partner and I had parted company and I found myself a solo artist has been called home by the Lord. Ralph Emery was so good to me I adored him and I know that it was mutual. He brought me to Nashville to appear on Nashville Now so many times long before and of course after I’d recorded “Rainy Night In Georgia” with Conway. Ralph believed in me, he believed in my talent, and he presented me always in the best light, giving me the opportunity to shine. Gratitude, honor, and love Ralph, forever and always.
• Sammy Kershaw – When I met Ralph in 1991, we instantly became friends. Thank you for being a part of my career. Gonna miss you, my friend! God bless you and RIP.
• Sarah Trahern, CEO of the CMA – Ralph Emery was often better known than the stars he introduced to larger and larger audiences over the years as Country Music’s foremost ambassador. Our format had no better voice over the years than Ralph, who treated Country Music and its stars – many of whom went on to become his friend – with the kind of dignity and respect they deserved for decades. As a Country Music Hall of Famer, he will be remembered among so many of the artists he supported throughout his career. On a personal note, I worked with Ralph for many years, and I always looked forward to his lively stories when we sat down for lunch. My thoughts are with his family today.
• T.G. Sheppard – The passing of my long-time friend Ralph Emery is devastating. His friendship to me and his contribution to country music will never be surpassed. It’s going to be tough not having him to turn to for advice. He was so kind to help guide me throughout my career as a friend and artist. Just knowing him made me a better person. My prayers go out to Joy and the family during this very sad time. R.I.P. my dear friend.
• T. Graham Brown – Ralph Emery just crossed over the river Jordan. If it were not for his generosity, I wouldn’t have had a career. He had me on his hugely popular show, “Nashville Now”, 56 times. The importance of that exposure to millions of country music fans cannot be overstated. He was a dear friend and we shared many good times together. He helped countless artists and was a giant figure in country music history. Sheila and I loved him very, very much and will miss him deeply. What a guy!!
• Tim Atwood – Ralph Emery was a big part of my life. I played the Ralph Emery Morning Show for 14 years, and I later played piano on TNN’s Nashville Now as a regular sub for Jerry Whitehurst. Ralph broke records and made stars on WSM radio; then he introduced those same stars to a television audience and in the process became a household name himself. Ralph Emery was country music! I send my condolences and prayers to his wife Joy and the rest of his family and friends.

Charlie Daniels

The Country Music community is mourning the loss of a true American Treasure today as Grand Ole Opry member and Country Music Hall of Famer Charlie Daniels passed away this morning in Hermitage, TN due to a hemorrhagic stroke. The multi-instrumentalist is best known for his fiddle playing, patriotism, generosity, and of course his iconic hit “The Devil Went Down to Georgia.”

His career spanned several decades and dabbled in multiple genres including Bluegrass, Gospel, and Blues, but he is best known for his contributions to Southern Rock and Country Music.  The North Carolina native started off as a songwriter and session musician playing for artists such as Bob Dylan and Ringo Starr before stepping out on his own in 1971.

In addition to his Opry membership (2008) and Country Music Hall of Fame induction (2016), he was also inducted into the Musicians Hall of Fame in 2009.  He would also add Grammy winner, actor, and several other awards and recognitions to his well-rounded resume.

His catalog boasts five Top 10 albums, four Platinum albums, three Gold albums, and seventeen Top 40 singles.  Despite his musical contributions, his biggest impact on the world may be his charitable efforts headlined by the Volunteer Jam, a recurring event that dates back to 1974.  He also wasn’t afraid to speak his mind about politics and current events, as his series of “Soapbox” blog posts prove.

Daniels was one of the best follows on Twitter, having his daily routine of tweets.  Each morning, he would fire off a series of tweets starting with a “Daily Bible Verse,” followed by a “Let’s Make the Day Count” motivational thought, a “Pray for the Blue” reminder, a reminder of how many babies are aborted each day (125,000), a reminder that “Benghazi ain’t going away,” a reminder that “22 veterans commit suicide each day,” and a reminder to “remember 9/11.”  He would then later end the night with a “Guess I’ll hang it up for tonight, Goodnight planet earth-God bless” tweet.  His final tweet was this image:

Our affiliate in South Florida had the opportunity to interview him in 2016 in advance of a show he played, and his generosity and thoughtfulness were on full display as he gave great answers to our questions.  His presence as an American Icon and Patriot will be sorely missed.

• Charlie Worsham – the deeper you dig into the gold mine that is Charlie Daniels’ music, the more you fall in love. i’m particularly blown away by his legacy as a session musician, and this song would have to be my favorite.  (see video section below)

I’ve met some of my “heroes” before and been a little disappointed, but, Mr. Daniels was NOT one of those moments.  I feel very honored to have re-recorded “Long Haired Country Boy” with my band The Rockin CJB before Mr. Daniels passing; I was able to hear that he had listened to the track, and gave it his stamp of approval.  “The Legend of Wooley Swamp” from the 1980 Full Moon album was quite possibly one of the first Rock sounds I heard aside from Elvis and Ronnie Van Zandt, and, it shaped me forever. Rest Peacefully Mr. Daniels; thank you for what you gave to us all while you were here.
• Collin Raye – Deeply saddened by the news today of Charlie Daniels’ passing. Charlie Daniels was a true patriot, a man of God and a great American. To call him a musical icon is a gross understatement. A pioneer in the southern rock movement of the 70s, leading the Charlie Daniels Band, his bold and musically impressive songwriting, spawning legendary hits like ‘The South’s Gonna Do it Again,’ ‘Long Haired Country Boy,’ ‘In America,’ and, of course, ‘The Devil Went Down to Georgia,’ and many, many others that have already stood the test of time as some of the greatest, most iconic records in the history of rock-n-roll AND country music. I’m so incredibly honored to have been included in Charlie’s final music video of ‘Geechi Geechi Ya Ya Blues’ with his band, the Beau Weevils. I certainly didn’t expect it to be his last. Our industry has a huge void in it today. A great man of principal, honor, integrity and faith, who always told it like it is. There will never ever be another Charlie Daniels. My prayers go upward for his entire family. Rest in peace, Charlie.
• Colt Ford – I thought that 2020 could only get better and I was wrong. To hear that one of my heros has passed away, the great Charlie Daniels, has broken my heart. I can’t even put the words together. He was so special to the world not just as a musician, but as a man, a truly great human being. Charlie has been so good to me over my career. I have been so lucky to share the stage with him many times. I can’t imagine this world without him. I have had many talks with him about music, about life, and about how to treat people. He stood up for this country, he stood up for what was right, he stood up for his faith. He did what he said — he was everything I want be and still want to be. • Confederate Railroad – Confederate Railroad sends our deepest condolences to Hazel, Charlie Jr, all the members of the Charlie Daniels Band and his many fans. Charlie Daniels was not only a star, member of the Country Music Hall of Fame and American Patriot, he was and will always be a legend. But even more important than that, he was a lifelong friend to Confederate Railroad. We shared the stage with him more times than we can count and every time was a privilege and honor. We are devastated by the news of his passing, but will always be thankful for being able to see for ourselves his honor, friendship, loyalty and of course, his music

I lost my mother seven years ago to a hemorrhagic stroke; the shock only ever softened by knowing she was with her Lord. • Gene Watson – It’s with a heavy heart that I am letting you know our good friend and Country Music Hall of Famer Charlie Daniels passed away this morning at Summit Medical Center in Hermitage, TN from a hemorrhagic stroke. He was 83. What a truly great man beyond just his obvious talents as a singer and musician. He was a force of nature and will be greatly missed.

Being that he is somebody we look up to, from Wilmington NC and my brother and I have lived there for 20yrs, we of course said yes and walked over to his bus. Charlie, his wife, Tom and I sat just the 4 of us laughing and having a great convo about life/tour and Wilmington NC for a good while. He was one of the nicest/down to Earth guys I’ve ever met and I’ll never forget that day. Right before we were about to get back on our bus say goodbyes, and head out to our next show he said “well we better take a picture, it’s not often I run into brothers from Wilmington out here on the road!”  This photo is that moment on his bus. • Jeremy Westby – I had the pleasure of representing Charlie Daniels and his charity The Journey Home Project for many years. He headlined a concert at the Air Force Academy back in 1998 when I was road managing the opening act – the Clark Family Experience – who were managed by Jim and Sherman Halsey. I’ll never forget how Charlie could shred that bow and keep the audience at the edge of their seats. I didn’t have the pleasure of talking to him then but as the years passed and my career came full-circle, I did – and then some. Charlie was much more than a client. He welcomed me and my family into his home on holidays, we had media junkets to New York and more wonderful experiences than I can count. To say he leaves an indelible mark on our community is an absolute understatement. I will forever cherish the moments we had, and being part of the team to help guide his induction to the Country Music Hall of Fame will never be forgotten!  My heart goes out to Hazel, David, Bebe, Paula, Angela, Charlie Jr. and the rest of The CDB. Love to you all.
• Jerry Lee Lewis – Charlie Daniels was an incredible musician, entertainer and friend. I was thrilled to get to know him on the road and in the studio throughout our careers. He will always be remembered as a patriot, and a faith-filled Christian above all else.

It is my greatest honor to be your Country Music Hall of Fame classmate–you will live on forever as my hero… my friend. I love you.
• Ray Benson – We lost our pal Charlie Daniels.  I met Charlie in 1972 in San Fran at The Keystone Corner we played a double bill with his new band tickets were $1 and Freddies mom made free Spaghetti! I’ll cherish the time we had together. My Love to Hazel family band crew RIP friend!
• Ray Scott – Charlie Daniels was a big influence to me… a huge hero… I was a young artist writer in town in the late 90’s trying to find my voice.. I wrote a recitational song called Plowboy that ended up getting me a record deal.. I owe that to this man… He inspired me to do something different that stood out.. I’ve always credited him for that…I was lucky enough to do a few shows as his opener as well.. cherished memories.. Charlie was a true American patriot and an Icon who cared deeply about this country… and he was a badass… May God bless Charlie Daniels… and may he rest in peace…

• Ricky Skaggs – One of my favorite people on this earth Charlie Daniels has gone on to his eternal reward today. Oh, how he will be missed at the Grand Ole Opry and everywhere else he was loved. Charlie, thank you for being a Patriot, a Statesman, a Christian, a friend, a father, a husband to Miss Hazel, and a great maker of music that will live on for generations. You made an indelible mark in this life, and you will be missed my brother.
• Rodney Atkins – When I was 5 years old my parents asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up….I said “how do you be Charlie Daniels”….no one could be Charlie but Charlie. He’s one of the best humans I had the honor of knowing. Love and prayers to the Daniels family.
• Ronnie Milsap – Charlie Daniels embodied the fire of the South. He blurred lines between rock and country, when rock didn’t think country was cool, and his Volunteer Jams weren’t just legendary, they brought people from both of those worlds together. He was a patriot, a proud American, a world class musician, an incredible showman, as well as a wonderful father, husband, grandpa and friend. We’re all so sad to lose him, but if I know Charlie, he’s up in heaven, rosining up his bow and getting ready to let those fingers fly! Godspeed, my friend, you’re home.
• Sam Moore – One of the best friends, not only a peer, but a true friend. He was one of the most spiritual men. When we got together for a show in Oklahoma, we performed ‘Will The Circle be Unbroken.’ I never will forget that night.
• Sammy Kershaw – The music community has lost one of its greatest American icons today. Charlie Daniels is one of those artists whose music will never die. He was also one of the nicest people I have ever met in my life and also a great Patriot. God bless him. Charlie Daniels was statue material.
• Sara Evans – When I was 10 years old, I came to a Nashville and recorded this song. It’s called “I’m Gonna Be (The Only Female Fiddle Player in Charlie Daniels Band)”. RIP Charlie.  (See Videos section below)
• Sawyer Brown – It’s hard to know where to begin talking about Charlie. Maybe it should be the first time we met him, when he walked over to the bus, introduced himself (as if we weren’t already in awe of him) and told us he enjoyed our show—leaving us speechless—and when we called him Mr. Daniels, he told us, “Boys, just call me Charlie. We’re friends now.” Or the second time we ever worked with him, and he hopped up on the bus at about 7:00 AM and said, “Mark Miller, get up, son—we’re going golfing.” Or the time we were scheduled to do a weekend of shows with Reba McEntire but her band was tragically lost in the plane crash a few days before and Charlie called us and said, “Boys, I’ll fly in and do the show with y’all, if you don’t mind backing me up.” Mind?! We told him that when we started out playing clubs, half of our set was CDB music—so we’d already been in training. It was such a thrill to get to share the stage with him that night—and every night we ever got to do a show with Charlie. And there were a lot of shows over the years. There was never a show we played with Charlie that we didn’t say, “We need to more of these!”  And while I loved every minute of those shows, I really treasure all those times we got to visit and talk about books and music and life on the road. I was like a kid getting to go his favorite relative’s house every time we worked with Charlie. I’d make a beeline for his bus, give him and Mrs. Hazel a hug, and the visiting would commence.  When we first started out, people would ask what kind of career we wanted to have, and we’d point to the Charlie Daniels Band, and say, “That. That kind of timeless music. That kind of no-holds-barred stage show. That kind of longevity.” But as much as Charlie exemplified all of that, he was also a good man. A true gentleman. (Who was one of the first people Mark heard from when Madison was born? Yep, it was Charlie.) A true friend.  At the end of every visit, Charlie would give me a hug and say, “Love you, son.” I have no doubt where you are right now, Charlie—so I know we will see you again. And since we already know the songs, save us a place on the bandstand. We love you, Charlie.  Mrs. Hazel, Charlie Jr. and the whole CDB family—we are keeping you in our prayers.
• Scooter Brown – I grew up listening to Charlie Daniels. I never thought back then that he would become a friend and a mentor. He is the definition of ‘Salt of the Earth.’ His music touched millions, his kindness was always felt and his patriotism was second to none. I’ll always be grateful for the opportunities he’s given me in the music business. We have lost a true legend and I will miss him dearly.

• Swon Brothers – Heard the news about Charlie this morning. This is a sad day. He was one of the sweetest coolest guys we’ve met in this business. We have played quite a few shows with The Charlie Daniels Band
  and it was always the most memorable and enjoyable times. One time in particular the show was on hold due to storms so Charlie invited us on his bus to chat. His stories about the road and this business are unmatchable. The storm turned into a tornado and our bands and crews were told to gather in a bathroom of a gymnasium. Although a bit scary, that is one of the nights on the road that I’ll never forget. We all sang songs together with the natural reverb of the gym and the bathroom. Then sat in folding chairs talking until the storm passed. Not only was he a legend for country music, but a legend of a man. He told us about his mistakes, corrections, and his love for God. Rest In Peace CD… we will all miss ya and will see you again.
• T.G. Sheppard – Charlie was one of the most talented, kindest, patriotic and spiritual people I’ve ever had the pleasure of calling a friend. Whether I was doing shows with him from the Opry stage or on a stage in far away Japan, he always remained the consummate performer. The void he leaves in our business is enormous, and I know the music he will make in heaven will be overwhelming. Rest easy my friend.
• T. Graham Brown – It was an honor to know Charlie. He was a Godly, family man and the U.S.A. didn’t have a better friend. He always had an encouraging word and a firm handshake. Sheila and I pray for Miss Hazel, the family, the band and his entire organization. Rest in peace ol’ pal!
• Tammy King (The Steeldrivers) – Charlie Daniels was a giant among men!  An unbelievably talented musician, an American icon in every sense of the word.  I will forever remember the Opry performance when the SteelDrivers shared the stage with him and played a few songs together.  He leaves an enduring legacy and will be greatly missed.  The angels just gained one heck of a fiddler today!
• Tanya Tucker – Charlie Daniels was someone you could lean on at any time or ask his advice. I am so blessed to have known him as a peer, as a friend and performed with him many times. “The Devil Went Down to Georgia,” well, the devil never had a chance! And now Charlie is playing that fiddle with the heavenly angels in the Big Man’s band. Some day I’ll see you again, Charlie.
• Teddy Gentry (Alabama) – From the eighties until last year, I’ve had the pleasure of not only touring with but getting to know Charlie Daniels. He was everything on stage a great artist should be. But it was the off stage Charlie I grew to love over the years. Many times Charlie would answer the call to do charity work and never charge a cent. He set a humble example of what a man, a friend, and Christian should be by the way he treated others. I’m gonna miss you my friend.
• Terri Clark – One of the kindest men I’ve ever met. I’ll never forget this first time I met him in person many years ago, and he asked me what size hat I wore… magically a Charlie Daniels signature cowboy hat showed up with my name inside it. A legend, man of faith and proud American. I don’t think it’s purely a coincidence that he went to heaven right around “Independence Day”. The angels have another one for their choir. #ripcharliedaniels
• The Cadillac Three – Charlie was the coolest of the cool. A genuine talent and the nicest guy you ever met. He was so positive and encouraging, always told us to just keep on doin’ what we we’re doin’. We’ll miss ya Charlie.
• The Henningsons – I just heard that Charlie passed away. He was a great American and a wonderful Human being. We played at the Grand Ol Opry with him and he came and visited us in our dressing room. Had a great conversation with one of my heroes.

• Tim Atwood – Charlie Daniels was a music icon, yet every time I played piano for Charlie he made me feel like I was part of the Charlie Daniels’ family.   He loved our country and devoted much of his time to encouraging and performing for our men and women in uniform.  When my son Torre was in the Army, and he was about to ship out for his first tour in Iraq, Charlie met with Torre before he left, and he prayed with him.  You have no idea what that meant to me.  The devil can stay down in Georgia for all I care, because Charlie Daniels is heaven bound!
• Tim McGraw – Oh man, sad to hear about Charlie Daniels passing…I grew up on his music… brilliant songs and smokin’ records. And always, without fail, every time I had the pleasure of being around him, he was one of most genuine, kind and thoughtful folks I’ve ever run across. The word “legend” gets tossed around so easily these days, but not in this case… he was #BeyondLegendary.
• Toby Keith – Charlie Daniels was part of my very first music collection. And a great guy. He showed us how it’s done. RIP superstar.

• Vince Gill – I first met Charlie Daniels in 1976, and then when I was touring as part of Pure Prairie League, we opened a bunch of shows for him. I made a great friend in Charlie, and we’ve remained friends for over 40 years — that’s hard to do. He was a great example of loyalty and I’ll miss him.
• Vonn Kiss – A pioneer that stood for so many great things outside of music, a true patriot. He taught us all what a fiddle truly was while never being afraid to voice his opinion. He’s going to be deeply missed but his legacy will no doubt live on. Prayers and thoughts are with his family, friends and fans.
• Wade Bowen – Charlie Daniels played @BowenMusicfest years ago and my exact words to him were “Mr. Daniels you are the nicest artist we’ve ever had!” We had a good long visit & it could not have been a better experience or a better show. He was fantastic on every level. I will never forget that. He even gave us some love on his socials the next day about all the good we are trying to do around Waco with @BowenFoundation. Thank you Charlie for being the bad ass you are. We will all miss you dearly! Godspeed.
• Wynonna Judd – Getting to open for Mr. Charlie was one of my very first memorable moments in country music. He’s an important part of my story. When Mom & I opened for Mr. Charlie in the 80’s, I was so young, so naive, and in awe of my heroes and sheroes in country music. I spent most of my time trying to talk to, hang out with and learn everything I could from the artists we played shows with. Mr. Charlie was always so kind to me. He always made me feel so important. His heart. Oh my. His passion for God and his country, it really was what made him such a gifted soul. I adore him!! He’d come over to me in a crowded room to hug me. He always made time for me and I respect him so much for the way he treated me and so many others in the room. During one of our moments backstage before a show, I was talking to Mr. Charlie about how nervous I was being onstage. He told me to “Never look at the empty seats.” I have not forgotten his words to me. Charlie Daniels is a maverick. His heart is bigger than most. He lived and he loved large!!!!! Thank you for your service to our great country sir. I love you so

• Bobby Bare – Kenny Rogers was one of the greatest, I’ve been thinking about him all day since I heard the sad news. When we went into Hall of Fame together, truth is, I thought he was already in! To be inducted alongside him made it that much more of an honor. ‘The Gamber’ is a great story song, so well written, and Kenny had an ear for really great songs. He had a magic voice, instantly recognizable. I will miss my friend.
• Mickey Gilley – Kenny Rogers was a dear friend of mine. I worked with him back in 1959 in a recording studio in Houston, Texas. He was working with a jazz group known as the Bobby Doyle Trio at the time. A lot of folks didn’t know this, but Kenny played the upright bass on my first song that charted in Houston. I have lost a great friend and the music world has lost what I refer to as a superstar. He became a legend in country music, pop music and movies, as well. Truly a great talent overall. He will definitely be missed by me and all of his fans
• Randy Travis – I love you. Stay in touch. Take care of yourself. And, if you ever start recording again, I want to be there’—kind words from my longtime friend, Kenny Rogers. He was always near when you needed him, with that infectious smile that lit a room. I had the honor of working with Kenny, numerous times, over the last 35 years—each time I was left a better person. His voice and smooth singing style enabled him to move in and out of different musical genres like walking from one room to the next. But music was not his only creative outlet. He was also an amazing photographer. Rest well my brother, you gave us a lot in this life!

• John Anderson – Kenny was one of the few that successfully crossed genres. I’ve been a fan from a long time back, and we will all miss his voice and style.
• Pam Tillis – As long as I can remember there has been Kenny Rogers. It began the moment daddy brought home his ‘First Edition’ album with the soon to be hit single ‘Ruby Don’t Take Your Love to Town.’ That song put daddy on the map as a songwriter, and Kenny Rogers became a legend in the making. And I loved that voice! Many years later as a fledgling entertainer, I got to open for him and watch a true master at work. A dream come true was getting to sing with him. Totally unreal. Another special moment was having Kenny Rogers, the photographer, take one of my favorite portraits of dad and I. Ever. A true renaissance man. Kenny, thank you for a lifetime of music and memories. Sending deepest sympathies to his family.

• Billy Ray Cyrus – No one bridged the gap between country and pop more often and better than K R. He will be missed but his music and diverse style of story-telling will live on forever.
• David Bellamy (Bellamy Brothers) – Going back to the late 70s and early 80s, we played a lot of dates together. He was one of the first artists to have a stage in the round, in the middle of the arena. He was also an accomplished photographer, and he shot some portraits of Howard and me. We really got to know Kenny through the years and are thankful for the memories. Love and prayers to his family.
• Gene Watson – I had so much respect for Kenny Rogers – he was from Houston, Texas too. He was a truly unique vocalist and artist who easily transitioned from a group (First Edition), a duo, solo artist and actor. If he did it, it was the best.
• Naomi Judd – Kenny Rogers was a dear family friend and he was one of the kindest, nicest guys. A true gentleman. I had the privilege sharing the stage with him as well as on screen, in the film Rio Diablo. The Judds were honored to celebrate him a few years ago during his tribute concert. Rest In Peace, Kenny. • Steve Wariner – Hearing Kenny Rogers’ magnificent voice singing MY lyrics, my music, to ‘I’m Missing You,’ that was definitely a highlight! When KR sang that song, he OWNED it. What a talent and what a sweet man. Kenny, you certainly made this world a better place. Rest In Peace my friend.
• Tanya Tucker – What a career, what a talent, what a legacy. Now this world is left with a big shadow, center stage where Kenny Rogers stood. No one else can take his place. Now he’s taken his place amongst the Heavenly stars. It’s a very sad day for all of us. But God is smiling. Rest easy my friend.
• Karen Fairchild (Little Big Town) – I have the most wonderful memories of riding down the road with my family, radio up loud, singing along with Kenny Rogers. Didn’t know I’d grow up and get the chance to meet him, much less sing for him. He was one of a kind. The ultimate entertainer.
• Barbara Mandrell – I felt so sad hearing of Kenny Rogers’ passing. He had one of my very favorite voices, and he was always so kind to me. We were friends for so many years. Thank you for sharing your gift with us all. Rest In Peace my friend.
• Ronnie Milsap – I love Kenny Rogers! I even toured with him in the Spring and Fall of 1984. We recorded a duet, “Make No Mistake, She’s Mine”. This went to #1 on billboard charts, it also earned us a Grammy! Kenny, playing shows with you was lots of fun! I know you’re in Heaven now and just know all of us here will miss you forever. Rest In Peace, my brother!
• Tim McGraw – l loved Kenny Rogers. My mom really loved Kenny…she took me outta school (7th grade or so) and dropped me at Monroe Civic Center to stand in line for tickets to his concert. I stood in line all day and got to the window just as last 2 tickets were sold.  Years later in college, I was working at the Civic Center selling popcorn up and down the aisles and got to see him. Still one of my favorites of all time….my mom still loves him. Love ya Kenny, my man. Sending love to Kenny’s family.
• Suzy Bogguss – Before I knew I’d have the chance to live my dream I would watch Kenny Rogers with Johnny Carson and he’d pull a guitar from behind the couch and delight the audience with a perfect acoustic performance. It made me work harder on guitar so I could accompany myself that way. He was always so personable and at ease. Well, I sure never dreamed I’d get to tour with Kenny and sing on a record with him but wow, I did! Turned out he was the same charming, funny guy that I’d seen on the Tonight Show. Thanks Kenny for sharing your awesome sexy grainy voice and for helping newbies like myself and Billy Dean. I’ll always remember how you blushed when I was 7 mos pregnant and we’d sing “Baby It’s Cold Outside.” We’re gonna miss you friend. You’re gonna be a standout in the Angel Choir

• Lee Greenwood – I have known Kenny Rogers for as long as I can remember. I first saw him when I arrived in Las Vegas at 17 years old. He was playing standup bass and singing behind the Kirby Stone Four at the Thunderbird Hotel.  The second time was at the Flamingo when he returned with his own band, “the First Edition”. I had no idea at the time that he would become such an important person in my life.  After many years in Nevada, my career finally took off in Nashville. I began writing at MCA music and recording at MCA records. My first assignment was to write a song for Kenny.  “A Love Song” was scheduled to be on my first album, but MCA Music sent it to Kenny.  He recorded it, and it went number one all around the world at the same time – it was my first hit as a writer and it changed my life in many ways!  A few years later I would have the honor of touring with Kenny and opening for him across America and Canada. I found him to be the most caring, artistic, and genuine person I had ever known. He was always kind, encouraging, and fun to be with. His voice was magic and his performance on stage was powerful and dynamic. Thank you Kenny Rogers for being a friend to me. I’m a fan like the millions who loved you. I am blessed to have known and created music for you, my friend who I admired so much! He was an icon that thrilled millions around the world, and our hearts are broken by the news of his passing. Kim and I are sending love and prayers to Kenny’s wife Wanda, his children, and all of his family.
• Tracy Lawrence – What an amazing journey Kenny Rogers had. I had the pleasure of visiting with him several times over the years. He was always very gracious to me. His music touched me from an early age.
