Check out our interview with a Hometown Talent from Texas named Shane Barnhill!

  1. Where were you when you first heard yourself on the radio, and what was your reaction?
I was in Corpus Christi, Texas, driving from a show to the hotel. It was something I had waited all my life to hear. It was very surreal and certainly a milestone for me.
  1. What is the #1 item on your Bucket List?
To sing a song with George Strait
  1. What is something that you are extremely passionate about?
In addition to being a country music artist, I’m also a Firefighter/Paramedic. I’ve done these two things most of my adult life!
  1. If you could only listen to one album for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Wow, now that’s tuff.  George Strait  “Strait Out of The Box”
  1. If music wasn’t your career, what would you be doing for a living?
I do both! I am also a full time FF/Paramedic  Heavy Rescue Technician and Hazardous Materials tech. I do the two things I love.
  1. What would your final meal be if you knew it was your last one?
Chicken Fried Steak and  Blue Bell Ice Cream’s Great Divide
  1. What unusual item do you have to have with you out on the road?
Not sure this is that unusual being a family man but I always have a picture of my kids with me.
  1. What’s been your favorite city/town to visit?
My favorite place to visit is a region in Texas knows as the Hill Country. It’s known for rolling hills, bluebonnets, country cabins, the Guadalupe River and cities like Austin, San Antonio, Wimberley, Canyon Lake and more. The live music scene is amazing too with legendary venues like Gruene Hall and Broken Spoke playing the best Texas has to offer.
  1. What are your thoughts on the state of today’s country music?
To me county music is all about the song and its lyrics. I cover some of the more hard hitting country tunes in my shows but I make sure to make them my own so the message is there. Today’s music is more about style and production and I think getting back to the roots of what makes this genre so great is what is needed. Real traditional country music makes you wanna cry, drink, fight or love but it hits you right in the heart. The best country songs will make the hair stand up on your arms and the back of your neck and give you chills.
  1. What’s the best advice you could give to an aspiring artist?
Don’t play music for the money, do it for the art! That is what has killed the freedom of making all different genres of music. I have no problem with the new country being so “pop” because it sells the genre to a broader fan base but, from an artist standpoint, always be yourself and sing and write from the heart! And, don’t burn bridges because your reputation can make or break you.
